Closet to Crafting Cove
Here the underutilized closet of an upstairs loft was reclaimed as a "crafting cove". This project took 4-5 hours and 1 trip to IKEA, but the results are fantastic! The use of color and whimsical nature of the storage units really reflect the personality of this crafter. This was a very fun and fulfilling project to complete! My favorite aspect of this room is that the space is itself an inspiration create. Sometimes craft spaces that are overly organized are not utilized because people do not want to get them messy. In contrast, the storage solutions in this space are dynamic and easy to access. They just beg to be opened, emptied and played with!
Playroom Redux Before:
This mother of two stated that the room was impossible to keep clean because her 4 yr old and 2 yr old had access to everything. "They just pull something out, quickly get bored and pull out something new." This is a common problem when everything is available all the time. I suggested that by turning her storage units vertically, she could control access and implement an easy system of toy rotation. This was also critical for keeping little choking hazards away from her toddler.
After:
Now she can rotate toys from top to bottom to keep the toys fresh and engaging, Additionally, all those little parts can be permanently kept in one of the top bins to take down when the toddler is napping. The large picture books that did not fit into the shallow bookshelf were moved into the storage cubes which really cleaned up the back wall. We also used cozy flower floor pillows to create a reading corner for her older daughter in front of her new section of the bookshelf.
